Video Editing & Motion
Teach your agent to do the grunt work of video editing (subtitles, reframes, rough cuts, render queues) and to make code-based motion graphics.
What we found works best
If you own DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1+, use its native MCP (File → Setup AI Assistants). On older Studio versions, use the community samuelgursky/davinci-resolve-mcp. For motion graphics written in code, use Remotion with its official skills.
Blackmagic's native server is first-party and configures Claude Code and Codex for you. It's Studio-only (the free edition has no MCP). Remotion keeps every frame as editable code instead of generated footage.
Options we compared
| Option | Cost / account | Can act? | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| ✅ DaVinci Resolve Studio native MCP First-party; File → Setup AI Assistants auto-configures supported clients | Studio license (paid; the free edition has no MCP) none (local stdio) | edits projects and renders: work on duplicated timelines | vendor docs |
| davinci-resolve-mcp (community) For Studio versions before 21.1 | free (needs Studio) none | edits projects | samuelgursky/davinci-resolve-mcp MIT · ★ 3.5k · pushed 2026-10-14 |
| ✅ Remotion + Remotion skills Code-based motion graphics you can edit and re-render | Remotion has its own license terms for companies (check remotion.dev); the skills repo has no license file detected none | local renders only | remotion-dev/skills none found · ★ 5.1k · pushed 2026-10-12 |
Steps
- Pick your route: Resolve Studio 21.1+ (native), older Studio (community), or Remotion (code motion).
- Resolve: File → Setup AI Assistants, restart the agent, and confirm the tools are listed.
- Run a read-only check (project name, timeline count).
- Duplicate a timeline and do one write task on the copy (e.g. auto-subtitles, or a 9:16 reframe).
- Remotion: install the skills, scaffold a project, and render a 5-second test.
Traps to avoid
- Expecting the free Resolve edition to have MCP
- Running the agent on a different machine from Resolve (the server is local stdio)
- Rendering huge files repeatedly
Safety
- Never send, post, publish or spend money or credits without the owner's OK.
- Always work on duplicated timelines; never overwrite the original edit.
- No publishing or uploading of exports without the owner's OK.
- Respect footage rights and the consent of people on camera.
